Q: What is a Solar Charge Controller and what is MPPT?
A: The Charge Controller takes the power made by the solar panels and transform the ‘solar panel power’ into a form of power that the batteries can use. MPPT stands for Maximum Power Point Tracking, and it relates to the solar cell itself. Each solar cell has a point at which the current (I) and voltage (V) output from the cell result in the maximum power output of the cell. MPPT ensures that you get the most power possible from your solar panels at any point in time. It is particularly effective during low light level conditions.
Q: What does 60A on MPPT charge controller mean?
A: 60A represents the max amount of amps the controller can output going into the batteries.
Q: How many watts can Huayu 60 amp charge controller handle?
A: This MPPT charge controller can work with standard off-grid 12/24/36/48V solar panels with high voltage or multiple panels with voltage up to 200V. And the maximum combined input solar power is 750W for a 12V battery system, or 1500W for a 24V system, or 2250W for a 36V system, or 3000W for a 48V system. In particular, this controller will significantly increase the efficiency of a solar system where the solar panel voltage is much higher than the battery voltage.
Q: Would the unit be damaged if the battery polarity is reversed?
A: It is required to connect the battery first, if the battery polarity is reversed in this step, the controller has the protection and would not be damaged. But if the user connects the PV first and then, unfortunately, connects the battery polarity reversed, the controller would be damaged. This is caused by lithium battery characteristics.
Q: Why battery current is negative on the LCD?
A: Negative battery current means battery is discharging, this could happen when no PV or PV power is not enough to power the loads.
Q: Can I set Max. charge current?
A: No such feature, the only way to limit the Max. charge current is to connect fewer solar panels.
